Jennifer had a good night. The medication that induces a coma is no longer being given to Jena. She will gradually come out of the her coma. Jennifer has attempted to move her legs and arms. She has made some eye contact and seems to be doing well. At this point she will not remember anything and needs to remain calm so that her body slowly wakes up and begins to function without support. She does however have a high temperature. This will be monitored very closely.
Jennifer's body will be working extremely hard today. That is, Jennifer is currently on a ventilator and will be taking breathing test this morning. Hopefully she will be breathing on her own in the next couple of days.
Thank you for your prayers .... God is at work healing her.

Jennifer is progressing well. She continues to breathe through the respirator.
Her spirit is back. That is, she is fighting to get the tubes out. The doctors will continue to test for independent breathing. At this time she can take three breaths per minute. When she reaches 12 breaths per minute the staff will remove the tubes. Jennifer temperature is stable and things are looking up! We are so happy to see Jena’s spirit emerge…she is coming back with spunk!
Keep praying…God is listening!

Jennifer remains critical; however she came back a tad bit too feisty. That is, she has been sedated for the evening…it turned into a wrestling match…Jena was winning…the nurses couldn’t believe her strength! Jennifer will be reevaluated tomorrow morning for removal of her breathing tube. Fever continues to fluctuate.
We will update you tomorrow morning. Please continue to pray for Jennifer…God is the Great Physician.

Jennifer remains critical. Her temperature spiked and cooling was necessary. She has developed gunk in her lungs and we are waiting test results for pneumonia. More breathing test will be done today. As of this minute Jennifer’s temperature is under control and we remain optimistic. Preliminary test results will be in late this afternoon and tests results will be in late tomorrow afternoon.
Please continue to lift Jennifer up in prayer.

Things are about the same. Jennifer remains in critical and her temperature has been fluctuating between 101 and 103.6. Again cooling was necessary. Jennifer failed the breathing test and another attempt will be made tomorrow. We are still waiting on test results. She did not move backwards nor forwards…just remained the same. It is a rollercoaster ride with high peaks and low valleys. Just remember it’s Jena…she’s a tough girl. Keep the prayers coming!

Jennifer remains about the same which is critical. Her temperature spiked and cooling was necessary. As of this minute Jennifer’s temperature is under control. Jennifer needs to breath on her own, more breathing test will be done today. Test results will be late this afternoon and we are hoping to find out why the temperature is spiking. That is to say, pinpoint where the infection is and treat it with the most beneficial drug.
Please pray for healing and for Jennifer to take those strong full breaths this morning so that she can be removed from the ventilator. We all love her so much and she needs our prayers.

We are patiently waiting for improvement. Jennifer’s condition still remains the same. At this point her respiratory state is critical. That is, her breathing is very weak and a respirator is needed. Until Jennifer is removed from the respirator her condition remains dangerous. Again, Jennifer’s temperature is under control. An unsuccessful attempt to supply nutrition to Jennifer through a feeding tube was made. Another attempt will made tomorrow. On a positive note, Jennifer has been taken off sedation and her blood work came back negative for organ infection but will be monitored closely for the next week. At 8:00 tomorrow morning take a deep breath and pray for Jennifer; she will be taking her breathing tests.

Jennifer’s sedation medication is wearing off. She is becoming aware of what is going on. I have been reading your messages to her since about 6 am. She is responding with tears, half smiles, and eyebrow movement. She mouthed water to me. We are so excited to see this today. I told her the importance of breathing today…I asked her if she was going to try really hard and she nodded her head yes. When the nurses came in to do morning assessments I explained to her that I had to go, that I would be back later to read more messages; her eyes opened wide and she nodded. I said I love you Jena….she mouthed back I love you! Keep leaving her messages, I will read every one to her!
At 8:00 this morning take a deep breath and pray for Jennifer; she will be taking her breathing tests.

Jennifer did a great job this morning. She took 5 good breaths however she had some anxiety and the doctors felt it necessary to keep her on the ventilator for a while longer. Instead of waiting until tomorrow there will be more breathing tests done this afternoon. I will keep reading your messages to her; your words are hope!
Blessings to all of you and keep praying!

Jennifer’s breathing test went even better than earlier today. That is, Jennifer had six good breaths however her lungs are full of fluid and the fluid needs to be drained. It will be drained throughout the evening. Jena will test again tomorrow at 8am. The doctor is very optimistic that he will be able to remove the tube tomorrow. Jena’s temperature is still fluctuating from 99 to 104.
I read more emails to Jenna today. She acknowledged people by nods and smiles. Please keep sending them…it is helping to lift her spirits more than you know. Also, thanks for the prayers and deep breaths…they were heard!

Jennifer is still critical but worked really hard this morning, she took long deep breaths. However she is not yet strong enough to breath on her own and has been left on ventilator. Another test will be done this afternoon. Jennifer used sign language today and said: “Jennifer wants to breathe” … go Jena! Her motor skills are coming back and I will bring a white board in this afternoon. Jennifer’s temperature is being watched very closely; it is still fluctuating between 101 and 103.8. Again cooling was necessary. On a plus note Jennifer spirit to fight is strong. She is working hard to communicate with all of you!
I will keep reading your messages to her; your words are hope and comfort!
Blessings to all of you and keep praying!

I just spent some time with Jennifer. She had lots of questions. Jennifer can point at letters and we work towards questions. She wanted to know what day it was, how long she has been here, she had questions about the surgery and she asked to look the surgical area.
Jennifer’s temperature is still being watched very closely; it is still fluctuating between 101 and 103.8 a constant cooling is being used and adjusted as needed.
More breathing tests tomorrow morning. She is working really hard and wants to be off the ventilator!
She really enjoys hearing from you.
I will keep reading your messages to her; your words are hope and comfort!

Great news…Jena is off the respirator. She is breathing fast but her blood levels are good. She will be closely monitored and if things go well, she will not be aspirated. We are excited to visit with her but she is exhausted, it was a tough night last night. That is her body worked extremely hard to breathe and fight the temperature. Jennifer’s temperature still remains high. It is still being watched very closely; the temperature is still fluctuating between 101 and 103.8; a constant cooling is being used and adjusted as needed.
I will keep reading your messages to her; your words are hope and comfort!
Her face lights up when I read your communications!

I have been reading emails to Jena this afternoon. She wanted to give you a message. This is an exact quote from her: “Jennifer thanks you for your love and thoughts…keep the belief…it really works!”
On another positive note, Jennifer sat on the edge of her bed, stood up, side stepped, and sat back down….this is another huge gain! Go Jena!!!
Jennifer temperature is still fluctuating between 101 and 103.8 and is being watched very carefully.
We can’t thank you enough for everything you have done.
Keep the prayers coming!
I will continue to read your emails, she really enjoys them!

As far as her temperature goes, she continues to run a temperature between 101 and 104... keep praying!
She will attempt a walk again later today.
Thank you again; we really appreciate the prayers and support!

Jennifer has had another great day! She was able to walk quite a bit and sat in a chair about for 30 minutes. Jennifer was put on a soft food diet and enjoyed strawberry yogurt and cottage cheese. She is in good spirits! Jennifer’s temperature has remained between 98 and 101 today. . . this is awesome news! She even had Jason paint her toenails! Jennifer might be moved out of ICU as early as Monday. Keep praying, she is growing stronger everyday! What an amazing Day!

Jennifer is starting to realize what she has been through. As you can imagine, it is pretty confusing, especially considering she wasn't awake for a lot of it. She thanks you all for your love and support and is humbled knowing so many people care about her. Jason says he might give her cel phone back to start making some calls after we can get her to get some good sleep. The nurses have a plan of a dark quiet room 1/2 the time and wearing her out with exercise the other 1/2. Her temperature is around 100 most of the time, but it does respond to tylenol.
BTW, Jen says she is quitting alcohol, smoking, caffeine, and junk food. Then again, the first thing she ordered to eat...pudding! She was bummed this morning when she found out they were out of the white chocolate raspberry yogurt, so its good to see her taste buds are back!

JENNIFER IS OUT OF INTENSIVE CARE!!! She has been moved to room 552. Hopefully here she can get some much needed sleep. They disconnected Jena's oxygen sensor and her feeding tube - HUGE improvements! We're all feeling such relief knowing she is much much safer now.
Jena's especially looking forward to seeing her dear nieces and nephews soon.

Well, thinking Jena might actually sleep, we went to the waiting room. Unfortunately Jena decided she needed to wash her hands, and tried to get out of bed and walk to the sink. (Yes, she's still hooked up to at least three machines, but she didn't remember that I guess.) Jena fell straight down. It didn't seem to cause any major setbacks, and she's safe back in bed, but now she is grounded and has to wear a little leash attached to an alarm. She's promised not to try it again, but she's one stubborn girl so we're staying on guard.

Jennifer continues to improve. Jennifer’s temperature is finally stabilized. That is we had a good night and morning without temperature spikes. That alone is a huge step. She is walking the hallways with assistance. She is determined to be self-sufficient.
Jennifer is still working on her sleep and at this time is requesting only family visits. She really wants to see all of you, but is having some difficulty coming of the meds.
I will be up-dating this page once a day now. Thank you so much for your prayers and all that you have done! As Jennifer said…”It really works!”
One more thing; Jennifer wanted me to tell you that she took to take a shower today and feels WONDERFUL! …. She actually asked me to cap the letters!
As far as the emails…keep them coming…she enjoys reading them…yes…she is reading them!

Well everyone this is my first journal entry for Jena and I was with her all day and she had a five star day. She Got a 2 hour nap this morning then she ordered some chicken alferdo which she ate about half which is a good to see her appetite come back. She had a regular shower for the first time in almost 2 weeks (sponge baths only do so much). She then HAD to put makeup on just in case someone showed up. After the lunch, shower, & makeup she was very tired and napped for another 2 hours. Got her up at 5 PM and to my astonishment she walked up and down the very long hall at hospital all by her self!!!!! The Nurses had to jog to keep up with her :). I am so very proud of Jena for her positive attitude about all this and her ambition to get better. As you all know it is very difficult to hold her down but she also knows this was a major operation and she does NOT want to go back to ICU. I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone that has had Jena in there prayers. It has meant a lot to Jena and I. Jena conveys to me that she is very humbled by the response she received from all of you from prayers to food to cards. God has been listening to all of you. Jason

Jena had another great day. She is having most of her tubes taken out and the important one so she can go to the bathroom on her own. She walked several times again today and is eating fairly well. The rumor up around here is that if she keeps up this miracle of a recovery that she may be released very soon but she will have alot of therapy before she can go dancing! I will let Jena have her cell phone as soon as she gets a little more stronger and little less foggy. So dont be suprised if you get a call from her soon. We are still holding visits with people to 10 to 15 minutes due to her strenght issues. She gets tired real fast. If it wasnt for the prayers from all of you I dont think we would be where were at. Thanks again Jason

Jennifer had a scary day today. That is, her temperature began spiking throughout the evening last night and continued today. Her colon may have gone into shock; stopped expelling bowel into the ostomy bag. This is most likely temporary. Cultures were taken and the results will be back in tomorrow afternoon. The doctors said this could be from an infection or possibly a small abscess. We will know more tomorrow. Jennifer is some what blue today and needs a little cheering up! If you have any good jokes or funny (appropriate..lol) stories…send them this way!
Please continue to pray for Jennifer; prayers for healing and peace.

Jennifer is in good spirits today however her temperature is still fluctuating. She did get a test result back that may help pinpoint the infection. That is, Jennifer’s blood tested positive for a bacterial infection and she is being treated specifically for that. We are hoping the change of medication will work. Jennifer’s ostomy continues function.
The doctors still think she will be ready to go to mom’s early next week. We are not rushing her! We want to make sure she is strong enough to go home and her body is rid of infection.
Jennifer's faith remains strong ... please continue to pray for her.

Jennifer’s day has been very rocky. That is, she has been fighting off temperatures and has been switched to two drip antibiotics. The on call doctor believes that her abdomen is the source of more infection. The day has been full of tests, blood draws, and emotional ups and downs. Jennifer is emotionally and physically drained. She did however have some great visits today, she really enjoyed her company; they lifted her spirits for a time.
In addition Jennifer was in her room when a kind visitor stopped in and asked her if he could sing her a lullaby. Of course Jennifer invited him in and listened intently as he began to sing “At the Foot of the Cross”. The words touched her heart and she cried tears of thankfulness for the love she receives, for prayers of healing, for her belief and faith. She is humbled that this man was called to her room to lift her spirits and bring such hope!

Jennifer’s day was much better today. She is still fighting the temperatures, but they are not spiking as they were. Hopefully the antibiotics are working properly. In addition, Jennifer’s laparoscopic surgery incision from three weeks ago burst and began draining quite a bit of liquid. It was bandaged up and test will determine if this is another source of infection. It is good news if it is; the body is trying to expel infection and the doctors can treat the area. Jennifer’s recovery is amazing. In spite of her infections, her abdomen surgery incisions are healing at an unexpected fast rate. They muscles have healed and her surgical incision which was from the sternum to the belly button has closed 60%. Jennifer is wearing a wound vac that is changed and measured every 3 days.
On an exciting note, Jennifer had a special visit from her bichon frise. That is, Jason brought Tiffy Toodles in for a visit today. Jennifer really enjoyed that. Also, Jennifer took pleasure in visits from family and friends. It really helped the time pass and truly made her feel great!
Jennifer really appreciates everything you are doing to make this time easier for her. She wanted me to express her gratitude towards all of you and we would like to as well. Thank you for making this easier for Jennifer and her family!
Your prayers are making a difference!

Jennifer had a really exhausting day today. Jennifer’s laparoscopic surgery incision was enlarged to expel infection. In addition, she had all of her wounds opened and packed. She had doctors and nurses in and out of her room from 5:30 am to 12:00. As hard as it was for Jena, the extensive examination was needed.
Also, Jennifer had a pick line put in. This is a line that runs from her elbow through the subclavian vein to the superior vena cava at the heart. The pick is used as a port to get antibiotics to her body at a faster rate and will also be used to draw blood. That is, Jennifer’s veins kept collapsing and would not carry the antibiotics throughout her body. The pick line seems to be working; Jennifer’s temperature has not risen above 100 today.
Jennifer really appreciates your emails. They really lift her spirits. That is, as I read them to her we talk about who you are and what you mean to her. You are truly special people and Jennifer feels very strongly about each and every one of you.

Jennifer had another restful day today but her temperature began spiking late last night. That is, her temperature is back up to 102. We were hoping her temperatures would remain stable however it looks like the infection is trying to take control again. The doctors and Jennifer are doing everything possible to mange the this. Jennifer really enjoyed visits from friends and family. She is walking the halls and sitting for longer periods of time. She was hoping to go home this week however given the situation now she will most likely stay in a bit longer ... maybe next week. Keep praying for her recovery.

Jennifer’s day came with a few answered questions. That is, test results showed she was extremely anemic and her body could not fight off infections. In turn she ended up having a blood transfusion. Jennifer received two units of blood and she is hoping to see a difference in her energy level. The doctors will be investigating and will search the source of her hemoglobin deficiencies. Jennifer has a ctscan scheduled for tomorrow to evaluate her abdominal area and possibly more testing. She also has had spiking temperatures off and on all day. Jennifer wanted me to let you know that she is staying positive and hopeful that she will be out of the hospital next week. In addition, she stated that her energy and positive attitude is from your encouraging emails, prayers, and God's grace. She appreciates every one of you!
Again, thank you for your email and prayers! We are constantly reminded of the wonderful people in our lives!

Jennifer had a busy day today. That is she had a ct- scan, ex-rays, and various diagnostic tests. Jennifer’s hemoglobin was low once again and she needed another unit of blood. Her temperature has been under 101 and seems to be under control. Overall Jennifer's spirits are good. She did have a special surprise from Jason. You see, Jennifer and Jason have a special saying, “Forever and Always and Always and Forever” and Jason found a beautiful wall hanging that had a similar saying on it. Jason placed it in front of Jennifer’s bed as a reminder of his love and that he will be there for her “Forever and Always”. This was great lifter-upper for Jennifer!
Thank you again for all you do …we do so appreciate!

Jennifer had a great day today (she put on makeup and had Jason shave her legs)! Her day was full of welcomed visitors that brightened her afternoon. She enjoyed drinking a "real" coke! She walked quite a bit and her temperature was normal until about 7:00 pm. At that time the fever came back in full force and began spiking. Blood test and cultures were done late in the evening and we will no more on Monday. We are still waiting on conclusive ct-scan results.
Despite the setbacks, Jennifer is in really high spirits and wishes everyone a Happy Valentines Day!

She is really excited to discuss the possibility of going home next week and at the same time realizes that if she has to stay it is in her best interest. Her temperature was under control today and hopefully will not spike later this evening. Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers.

Good News…. Jennifer is out of the hospital!
Jennifer is resting at her mother’s house and will be there for a few weeks. Jennifer has a long recovery ahead of her and many new life changes. Words fail to express what you have done for Jennifer. Your kind acts, words, thoughts, and prayers mean more than you will ever know. As we reflect over this ordeal not only do we thank God for Jennifer’s healing, but we thank God for the beautiful family and friends that we have in our lives.
Again, we can’t thank you enough for all that you have done, however I know we can count on you for your precious time with God. Please continue to pray for Jennifer’s healing and peace.
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. “ Psalm 28:7

Its me! It has been about a week now since I was released. It has been an emotional road. I am a bit depressed but I hear that it is very normal after a surgery. Eating has been hard for me...now that is something I thought I would never say. I will be taking one day at a time and try to concentrate on what I can do, not what I cant. I appreciate all of your prayers, thoughts, emails and concerns. You have given me such hope.
I will keep all of you in my prayers. Please feel free to keep in touch with email or come and visit any time. Thank you again and God Bless!
Love Jennifer

Hi! I am home and with my wonderful guy and two wonderful pets. The wound vac was removed on Thursday and no more visits from nurses are necessary. I am excited to be returning to work in 2 weeks. My appetite has come back very strong...everything is starting to taste good again but now I need to lose weight (great timing...). The surgeon can perform the reattachment surgery sooner than anticipated if I lose 30 pounds. If I can lose the weight, I will hope to have my last surgery in 6 months! I need your prayers more than ever now to stay away from chocolate, Doritos and all my other favorite fattening foods! Again, thank you for your love and prayers! Miracles Do Happen.

God Bless!
I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
Blessings

Jennifer had another great day. She walked quite a bit and had wonderful visits with family and friends.
